Nervous About Your Next Visit? Try These Relaxation Tips
Is there an upcoming dental treatment or hygiene examination, and you feel nervous or uneasy about your visit? If so, you are not alone. There are many people who experience some degree of anxiety before they visit the dentist. We never want your nervous feelings to keep you from getting the dental care you need and deserve. Dr. Vargas and the entire team at Vargas Dental Associates, want you to feel comfortable and relaxed while in our care. We want to share some tips to help you relax before and during your next appointment:
Be Mindful of Your Appointment Time
We recommend scheduling your appointment at a time that is convenient for you. It would not be ideal to schedule your visit after a long day of work. Also, be sure to give yourself plenty of time to get to the office because, if you are feeling rushed, your anxiety will worsen.
Avoid Caffeine and Sugar
Caffeine and sugar can increase the blood flow in the body and add to nervous and anxious feelings. We would advise you to refrain from drinking anything with caffeine before your appointment. We also want to remind you to drink plenty of water so you are hydrated before your visit.
If the noises in the office bother you or you would like to relax during treatment, we encourage you to bring headphones to your appointment. You can listen to your favorite music or podcast or an audiobook. It will help the time pass quickly.
If you feel nervous when visiting the dentist, please be honest about your feelings. We have other patients who feel the same way, and we want to make sure you are comfortable, understand the treatments, and know what to expect during your appointment.
We never want nervous feelings to keep you from getting the oral care you deserve. If you have not visited our office for a hygiene examination within the past six months, we encourage you to call our office located in Bowie, MD and schedule an appointment today. Please express your feelings, and we will be more than happy to help you!
