It Pays To Be Proactive
The start of a new year is a time for reflection on experiences you had in the prior year as well as changes you may like to see in the new year. We encourage our patients to think about the state of their oral health over the past year and any changes or improvements they would like to see. We encourage our patients to be proactive with their dental health as a way to prevent dental complications from arising in the near future.
Why Preventative Dental Care is Important
We never want patients to assume that if they thoroughly clean and care for their teeth, they do not need regular dental care. While patients play the starring role in caring for their oral health most of the year, we provide support a few times per year. Routine dental cleanings are essential in the prevention of common oral health conditions such as dental decay and gum disease. During a hygiene examination and cleaning, we do more than thoroughly clean your teeth; we also inspect for current problems in the mouth as well as areas in the mouth that may have a problem in the future.
Preventative care allows patients to be proactive with their dental health rather than reactive. Patients who are proactive maintain routine cleanings and examinations when it is recommended. When routine appointments are skipped or postponed, it can lead to the development of serious oral health issues for which the only remedy will be various treatments and added expenses. Instead of being proactive, these patients are reactive. The biggest issue with being reactive is that you never know what the result will be.
If it has been some time since your last hygiene examination and cleaning, we would love to see you. The start of a new year is the perfect time to evaluate the state of your oral health and make any necessary appointments for yourself or the members of your family. Be sure to contact our office located in Bowie, MD to schedule your next appointment. We hope that you and your loved ones have a wonderful start to the new year, and we look forward to seeing you soon!
